In northern Espoo housing is in a natural environment while the residents still have services within easy reach.The planning area of zoning in Northern Espoo area includes the districts of Bodom, Högnäs, Järvenperä, Kalajärvi, Kunnarla, Laaksolahti, Lahnus, Lakisto, Lippajärvi, Luukki, Niipperi, Nuuksio, Perusmäki, Röylä, Vanhakartano and Velskola.
Single-family houses are the dominant form of housing which is concentrated in the Niipperi and Kalajärvi areas as well as Viiskorpi in the future. The rest of Northern Espoo consists of small villages and the Nuuksio wilderness.
There are several lakes, a variety of outdoor exercise routes and golf courses in Northern Espoo and it is also home to Serena, the largest water park in the Nordics. Nuuksio National Park offers marked routes and nature trails for people who enjoy the outdoors.
Northern Espoo plays a significant role in the Espoo strategy as the area enables living in a single-family house close to nature and services. Master plan guiding the development of Northern Espoo entered into force on 13 March 2024. When fully implemented in the future, the master plan will see approximately 40,000 new residents and about 7,000 jobs added to the northern and central parts of Espoo.
The master plan aims to implement the changes in a sustainable manner in terms of people, nature and economy alike.
