City planning in Tapiola
Tapiola is a vibrant urban centre full of arts, culture, sports and services.The Tapiola major district includes the city districts of Tapiola, Pohjois-Tapiola, Otaniemi, Niittykumpu, Haukilahti, Laajalahti, Mankkaa and Westend. The major district has 55,000 inhabitants, 14,000 of whom live in the Tapiola garden city.
The Kulttuuriaukio Square in the centre of Tapiola will be renewed, and the Espoo City Theatre will be moved into the extension of the Cultural Centre. The values of the historic Tapiola garden city will be preserved. A football stadium and residential housing are being planned for the sports park area. In recent years, many new dwellings and services have been built in Jousenpuisto and Niittykumpu.
The development of Keilaniemi will continue. The area will become an international hub for business, research and innovation, with a significant number of dwellings and new parks. Otaniemi will become a more diverse district. In addition to the Aalto University campus and cutting-edge research, a wealth of new housing and services to support it are being planned for the heart of the area.
