City planning in Tapiola

Tapiola is a vibrant urban centre full of arts, culture, sports and services.

The greater Tapiola area includes the districts of Tapiola, Northern Tapiola, Otaniemi, Niittykumpu, Haukilahti, Laajalahti, Mankkaa and Westend. The area has around 53,000 residents of which 13,000 are in Tapiola garden district.

The Kulttuuriaukio Square in Tapiola centre will be renewed and an extension of the cultural centre will house new facilities for the Espoo City Theatre. The historic garden district of Tapiola will be preserved. A football stadium and housing is planned for the Sports Park  area. In recent years, a lot of new apartments have been built in Jousenpuisto and Niittykumpu and a variety of new services have also sprung up.

Development of Keilaniemi continues. The area is intended to become a world-class hub for business, research and innovation, with a considerable number of houses and a new park as well.
