Use of public areas and application for permit
A permit from the city is always required for using publics areas. Excavation in public areas, such as streets and parks, requires an excavation permit. The running of lines and structures also requires a siting permit.
An excavation permit(external link, opens in a new window) can only be applied for after a siting permit has been issued. Measures are subject to a fee (price list below). The regulations and instructions are based on Section 14a of the Act on the management and cleaning of streets and certain other public areas and Section 84 of the Land Use and Building Act (appendix below).
It is the responsibility of the street manager to ensure that activities in the public area do not interfere with its actual use and that the value of city property is preserved. More information on excavation and siting permits.
