Sustainable Future Districts Pilot Program

In the pilot program, the focus is on two themes: sustainable mobility and urban environments that support biodiversity. Solutions were sought for the following challenges:

Sustainable Mobility

• Enhancing the appeal and safety of mobility environments
• Increasing sustainable commuting options and improving their attractiveness
• Improving temporary arrangements for walking and cycling in evolving urban spaces

Urban Environments Supporting Biodiversity

• Enhancing green infrastructure and local nature in challenging urban areas from a biodiversity perspective
• Improving the identity and appeal of changing urban environments through diverse urban greenery
• Increasing access to and connection with nature in residential areas
• Developing nature literacy

Each theme had its own call for proposals in 2024. Proposed solutions included products, technologies, processes, services, and events that introduced fresh perspectives on the themes above. A total of 53 proposals were submitted to the pilot program, of which five were selected for implementation—three focusing on sustainable mobility and two on enhancing urban biodiversity.
