The Laajalahti nature reserve is part of the Natura 2000 network, as the bay has very significant birdlife. Nature House Villa Elfvik, located on the edge of the nature reserve, serves as the city’s environmental education centre.

The Sakkolantie oak, which was protected as a natural monument in 1958, grows near Ring I at the southern end of Sakkolantie. With impressive branches, the tree has a circumference of more than three metres and a crown width of as much as 25 metres.Photo: Jussi Helimäki
