Kalasääksentie

The purpose of the plan alteration is to allow for complementary construction in Karakallio through compaction in the eastern part of Karakallio located along good traffic connections. The aim is to enable affordable housing while taking into account requirements concerning cityscape and functionality. Planning will pay particular attention to the rocky terrain, its height differences and street traffic noise abatement. The alteration will extend blocks so that some of the park areas in the current town plan can be used for building new blocks of flats in the future.

As regards traffic arrangements, measures to improve traffic flow and road safety are proposed. The Kalasääksentie roadway will be planned further east of the current roadway, thus increasing the distance between the roadway and existing residential buildings. The walkway on the western side of the street will be widened to 2.5 m. The Kalasääksentie levelling will be made more gentle in order to meet the basic level of accessibility.

Public parking spaces for visitors will be provided between the roadway and walkway. Some of the existing trees and shrubs may need to be removed and replaced with new ones.

The area’s municipal engineering will be improved by building a new stormwater drain and renovating the existing water pipeline and district heating line.

Interactions related to the street plan will take place in autumn 2023, depending on the processing stage of the town plan alteration. Street construction is expected to begin in 2024.

The street plans will be available for public review from 25 September to 9 October 2023. The Technical Services Committee approved the plans on 22 November 2023.
