At the event, residents marked comments and feedback on the map.

We organised an info and discussion event on 6 February on the plan change for reshaping the centre and shopping centre area of Haukilahti. The event was held at the Haukilahti service centre, where more than a hundred people interested in the plan change arrived to participate.

The plan change for the centre of Haukilahti concerns new construction in the shopping centre area. New residential buildings suitable for a central area as well as premises for services and commercial activities are being planned as replacements. The best way to view the involvement and assessment plan for the plan change and the plan preparation documentation is to visit the espoo.fi website.

More than a hundred Espoo residents interested in the plan change assembled at the Haukilahti service centre to voice their opinions. Tapiola’s Regional Architect Sampo Sikiö presented the status of the planning efforts for the Haukilahti area and responded to the questions of the residents with Planning Engineer Olli Koivulan.

We interviewed the preparers of the plan on the plan change for the Haukilahti centre and the goings-on of the resident evening.

What aspects about the plan change for the Haukilahti centre interested residents the most?

A record-high number of participants came for the two-hour resident evening, so people were clearly interested! At the event, most questions pertained to the scale of the construction, traffic arrangements and the amount of upcoming services.

Many were concerned whether or not the area would gain good and comprehensive services after the demolition of the shopping centre. The location and number of parking spaces were also discussed. Over the course of the evening, the residents considered how many and what kinds of buildings should be built in Haukilahti.

What was the atmosphere at the event like?

The conversation at the event was lively and constructive. We received a large number of questions and comments. The high number of participants is an indication that the area is very important for residents of Haukilahti.

Did the residents provide other feedback to the City?

The residents also brought up the communal element that the Haukilahti shopping centre has brought to the area. Until now, the shopping centre has been a meeting place for locals. As such, the participants hoped for something similar in the upcoming plan.
