The first evening of the ‘Following the carbon footprint – towards a sustainable lifestyle!’ series of events was held at Sello Library. The event was also livestreamed directly from the stage for viewing at home.

The event explored the themes of sustainable lifestyles with expert presentations. The event was livestreamed, and the recording will be available until 1 June at https://www.mediaserver.fi/live/hiilijalanjaljilla(external link, opens in a new window) (in Finnish). Please note that the recording is at the bottom of the page.

Marikka Sand and Auli Honkanen, experts from Helsinki Region Environmental Services HSY’s Climateinfo, were the first to take the stage to give tips on energy-efficient housing with concrete examples. HSY’s Climateinfo(external link, opens in a new window) offers a wide range of free and impartial advice and training on energy issues, as well as online courses on the Koutsi online training platform, for example.

Next on stage was Jari Lyytimäki, Senior Researcher at the Finnish Environment Institute. In his presentation, he addressed the weak spots of sustainable living and the reasons why everyday life is not sustainable already, and encouraged people to take action in their everyday lives, even in small ways. You can read Jari Lyytimäki’s post on the Finnish Environment Institute’s Ratkaisuja blog here(external link, opens in a new window) (in Finnish).

The last speech was given by Ville Taajamaa, Project Manager of the City of Espoo’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development. He talked about the UN’s sustainable development principles and Agenda 2030, and the role of the City of Espoo in achieving the goals. ‘Following the carbon footprint – towards a sustainable lifestyle!’ hybrid events and workshops will continue until June

The workshops will include an introduction from the City’s energy expert. After that, we will discuss together what kind of information materials the City could use to best support the introduction of new energy solutions and the installation of electric car charging stations in housing companies. The workshops will be held at Sello Library on 23 May and Lippulaiva Library on 6 June.

On 1 June, we will discuss the themes of sustainable lifestyles at Lippulaiva Library. We will hear other interesting and inspiring presentations and address questions on residents’ minds. What could sustainable everyday life be like for Espoo residents? How can a shopping centre be sustainable? How can we follow in the Activist Granny’s footsteps?

The last event in the series, on Wednesday 15 June, will be the final look into sustainable everyday life in Espoo. What could more sustainable everyday choices be like? And could you become an energy citizen who seeks self-sufficiency? Which circular economy themes is the City of Espoo currently focusing on, and how will this make residents’ life easier? The event will be opened by Mayor Jukka Mäkelä.

We warmly welcome you to attend these events as well, either at the library or from the comfort of your own home.
