At the moment, there are 36 different client and patient information systems in use in the municipalities of Western Uusimaa, including health care, oral health care and social services systems.

There is a long way to go before we have joint client and patient information systems: the aim is just 22 systems during 2021.

The first joint step is currently being prepared for in Hanko, Karviainen, Lohja and Raasepori, when the ProConsona client information systems for social services will merge by the summer. In addition, by the end of this year, the Pegasos patient information systems for health services will merge in Karviainen, Lohja and Raasepori.

Another joint step will be taken when the WinHit patient information systems for oral health care merge in Karviainen, Hanko, Lohja and Raasepori.

“We are now taking many steps in the same direction. Integration of the information systems reduces complexity, facilitates maintenance and brings cost savings. It is a significant change,” says Markus Lundell, Program Director of the Digitalisation and ICT Project.

Smoother service

The reform has many benefits for clients:

  • You can get service more smoothly when you do not need to repeat the same information in different services.
  • In the future, the information of social services will be visible in Kanta services, where everyone can view their own information.
  • Electronic services will also become available later on.
  • Municipalities save when system updates and other maintenance are easier to manage.

What about the future?

In 2022, the range of information systems will be reduced, for example, by the introduction of the Apotti system in Inkoo, Kirkkonummi and Siuntio. And somewhere around 2028, we anticipate a situation in which Western Uusimaa has only four systems in place, although these steps have not been decided yet.
