Located by the railway, Espoon keskus (Espoo centre) is Espoo’s heart. It is currently undergoing an extensive renewal. Espoon keskus combines excellent transport connections and versatile and constantly improving services with a traditional Finnish cultural landscape.The greater Vanha-Espoo area includes the districts of Espoon keskus, Kuurinniitty, Kaupunginkallio, Muurala, Karvasmäki, Gumböle, Nupuri, Vanha-Nuuksio, Karhusuo, Ämmässuo, Kolmperä and Siikajärvi.
Espoon keskus, located along the Rantarata railway and upcoming City Rail Link, is the renewing heart of Espoo which combines excellent transport connections, diverse and developing services as well as the historic cultural landscape of the Espoonjokilaakso River Valley with its medieval Cathedral. Most commercial and public services in the area are located around the station. The centre will be renewed based on the Espoo House architectural competition and as part of the Espoontori plan amendment.
Vanha-Espoo consists of residential areas dominated by single-family houses, the Central Park recreational area and Nuuksio wilderness. The Jorvi Hospital area, Oittaa outdoor recreation centre and Ämmässuo eco-industry centre are also located in the area.
