School transportation

A pupil who has been in an accident may be granted a temporary travel card or transportation by taxi. The pupil’s guardian must send a medical certificate to the school. The certificate must explain the reason and the time for which the pupil needs transportation to school.

The travel card application is submitted to the child's school. The decision to issue a travel card is made by the principal of the child's school. When the school changes, the application is submitted to the future school. School transport or travel allowance is applied for in Wilma

When applying for school transport or travel assistance, a statement from the doctor or psychologist treating the pupil must be attached to the application. The statement must clearly state why the student cannot get to school by walking, cycling or using public transport connections. If the student has a permanent mobility-related obstacle or disability, the statement can also be the latest epicrisis. You can also attach a copy of the pedagogical report to the application. The decision on school transport is made by the Development Manager.

How to apply for school transport through Wilma

1. Log in to Wilma with a web browser at https://espoo.inschool.fi(external link, opens in a new window). The application cannot be submitted in the Wilma mobile application version.
2. Select the "Applications and decisions" section from the top menu.
3. Select Make a new application and select School transport application for the school year for which you are applying for transportation.
4. Fill in the application form: Enter the required information and send attachments by secure email. The link and instructions for using secure email can be found on the application form.
5. Save the application. Make sure all information is correct before saving. The information on the form cannot be changed afterwards.

A separate confirmation of saving the form is not sent, but the application will appear in Wilma in the Applications and decisions section on the Open applications tab.

You can also submit the school transport application and its attachments to the staff of the City of Espoo's customer service point City of Espoo/Customer service.

You can submit an application for school year 2025–2026 transportation, even if your child's school place is not confirmed. 
Applications for students starting in grades 2–9 by March 7, 2025.
Applications for school starters and those changing schools by May 9, 2025.
The decisions are published in Wilma or mailed to guardians no later than the week of the 25th.
 
Processing of applications submitted late and received during the summer will continue in August. School transportation as a group transportation only takes place when the student has received the transportation decision.

School transport can also be applied during the school year. 

The decision on school transportation will appear in Wilma. If the pupil’s guardian wishes to receive the decision by post, it will be sent to the pupil’s home address.

Decisions on school transportation are made by the Development manager.

If the pupil’s home address or school changes, you need to re-apply for school transportation benefit.

Changes of address must always be made by email and well in advance,
as your child's right to transport in the future will need to be checked. If the
address changes, the student's right to school transport will be checked
and for this reason you must submit a new application to koulukuljetukset@espoo.fi. However, it is not necessary to submit new statements. They can be requested from you if necessary. Please note that you cannot change your address directly with the transport company. Please remember to change your address also to Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
