Karakallion koulu
Karakallio school is a middle school located in Karakallio, Espoo. The school has around 450 pupils from 7th to 9th grade.
Our school is located in the middle of Espoo in Karakallio. We have approximately 450 pupils from 7th to 9th grade. Our school offers mainstream education, music weighted education, smaller group education for those with special needs in education, as well as flexible basic education (JOPO).
We also have a strong tradition on music education in Karakallion koulu. Active music classes have created a great concert, musical and festive culture.

Karakallio school has music weighted classes on every grade. 6th graders can apply for music weighted education in high school in January.

- Thu 18.12.2025 Music classes perform Christmas songs at Karakallio School at 18:30
Spring 2026
- Sun 29.3.2026 Classes 9A and 9B perform a musical at Karakallio School at 15:00 and 18:00
- Thu 21.5.2026 Classes 7A, 7B and 8A perform a concert at Karakallio School at 18:30
Please note that there might be changes in the schedule. The musicals and concerts will be organized if the circumstances allow it. If necessary, the performances can be changed into a different form, for example by using technology.

Curriculum
Our school´s teaching and education are based on curriculum. Our curriculum tells how teaching is organized and how pupils study in our school. The curriculum also specifies pupil´s objectives in different subjects as well as the contents and assessment criteria of each subject. Espoo city´s and the school´s curriculum is based on the national core curriculum.

Assessment
The assessment of learning is based on the curriculum. The assessment of different subjects is explained in more detail in Wilma announcements.

A1-language: English
A2-languages: Spanish, German, Swedish (Swedish only for term 2024-2025 7th graders and the following years´ new 7th graders.)
B1-language: Swedish
B2-languages: Spanish, German, Russian
Music weighted classes
In our music weighted classes pupils study music 3 hours a week. Music weighted classes offer basic education with different opportunities for performing and having concerts, culminating in a musical at the end of 9th grade.
Different clubs such as orchestra, singing group and music technology support the music studies. Also bands and other groups run during recess.
You can apply for music weighted education for grades 7-9 in January during your 6th grade.

JOPO-class
Karakallio school also has a class in flexible basic education (JOPO) for 9th graders. In JOPO class you study alternately in school and at a workplace.

Absences
Guardians must ask for permission for pupil to be absent from school beforehand. For absences of 1-5 days, ask for permission from the pupil´s homeroom teacher. For absences over 5 days, ask permission from the principal. If the pupil falls ill, inform the class teacher of the absence right away. All absences are handled via Wilma.
