Term dates and holidays for schools and early childhood education
- Schools and pre-primary education in Espoo are on winter break 20–24 February 2023 (week 8). Early childhood education is offered normally during the winter break, but please notify us in advance via the eVaka calendar if your child will not attend early childhood education during the week in question.
- In the summer, between 26 June and 30 July 2023, early childhood education units offer limited activities, which are concentrated to a few daycare centres. Please inform us before the end of April if your child will need early childhood education during the summer. The daycare centres active in the summer will be specified in May or June.
- Schools and early pre-primary education in Espoo are on autumn break 17–21 October 2023 (week 42). Early childhood education is offered normally during the autumn break, but please notify us in advance via the eVaka calendar if your child will not attend early childhood education during the week in question.
- In the winter, 27–29 December 2023, some early childhood education units are closed and early childhood education is concentrated to a few units in the area. Please inform us in advance if your child will need early childhood education 27–29 December 2023.
Clubs and residents’ parks
- Finnish speaking children’s clubs mainly have the same the work and holiday periods as pre-primary education. The club season ends in Espoo on 2 June 2023, and a new club season begins on 10 August 2023.
- Residents’ parks are open on weekdays between 8.00 and 16.00, except on public holidays. There is no snack service for schoolchildren during school holidays.
- Some of residents’ parks are closed in July but, as a rule, each service area has one open residents’ park. The residents’ parks open in July will be announced in late spring.

The responsibility for children’s attendance in pre-primary education lies with their parents/guardians. The parents/guardians are also responsible for ensuring that the objectives set for pre-primary education are met during absences. Absences shorter than two weeks shall be reported to the pre-primary teacher in writing by the parents/guardians. Absences longer than two weeks shall be agreed with the day-care centre director.
