The Five Corners Quintet (TFCQ), a trailblazer in Finnish jazz music at the beginning of the 21st century, will make a temporary comeback in 2025 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its debut album “Chasin' The Jazz Gone By”.
In terms of international popularity and album sales (over 50,000 copies sold), TFCQ is one of Finland’s biggest jazz ensembles ever. In the mid-2000s, TFCQ’s energetic dance music based on the 1960s jazz tradition climbed the charts and gained renown on the young club scene. The live band, which included Jukka Eskola on trumpet, Timo Lassy on tenor saxophone, Mikael Jakobsson on piano, Antti Lötjönen on bass and Teppo Mäkynen on drums, toured extensively all over the world and became very popular, especially in Japan. Since then, the members of the band embarked on successful solo careers and are some of the most important musicians in Finnish jazz today. Today, the band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its debut album by playing updated versions of its songs, which remain faithful to the original spirit of the album.
