Työnhakijan pikaopas

1. Register as a jobseeker through Job Market Finland’s E-services

  • Tyomarkkinatori.fi/en(external link, opens in a new window)
  • If you cannot use the E-Services, register as a jobseeker at one of our offices. Bring a photo ID with you.
    • Employment Services, Piispanportti 10 A, 1st floor
    • Employment Services, Sello shopping centre, Leppävaarankatu 3–9, 2nd floor

2. Apply for unemployment benefit

  1. When you register as a jobseeker, indicate that you are applying for unemployment benefit. We will assess whether you are entitled to unemployment benefit, and we will issue a statement on the matter.
  2. If you are a member of an unemployment fund(external link, opens in a new window) (either through your trade union or directly), apply for unemployment benefit from your unemployment fund. If you are not a member of an unemployment fund, apply for unemployment benefit from Kela(external link, opens in a new window).
Kela or your unemployment fund will assess the other criteria you have to meet to receive unemployment benefit, such as the waiting period.
  3. Kela(external link, opens in a new window) or your unemployment fund will decide whether you will receive unemployment benefit. If you are dissatisfied with the decision, you can request a review of the decision and provide additional information.
  4. Fill in the unemployment status report, i.e. report the days on which you have been unemployed. Submit the report to Kela(external link, opens in a new window) or your unemployment fund. Kela(external link, opens in a new window) or your unemployment fund will pay your unemployment benefit.

Once you have registered as a jobseeker, we will invite you to an initial interview. At the meeting, we will draw up an employment plan for you. In the plan, we will agree on your goals, your job search obligation, the services you need and the measures you will take to look for work and handle matters with us. The aim of the plan is for you to find work quickly.
