Street maintenance, situation on 27 March 2024

Snow banks have melted and the temperature remains above zero at night. We have therefore been able to start removing grit from streets.

We will first remove grit from bus routes and other busy areas where vehicle traffic raises a lot of dust into the air. We will then move on to pedestrian and cycling paths. We are already removing grit from busy pedestrian areas, for example in Tapiola and around the Sello shopping centre.

In addition to sweeping, our maintenance staff are patching holes in road surfaces and filling potholes in gravel roads.

Partial grit removal

There may be areas where grit has only been partially removed from pedestrian and cycling paths. This is related to the cleaning of carriageways. The section of the pedestrian and cycling path that is closer to the carriageway is cleaned first to prevent rainwater and meltwater from carrying more grit onto the carriageway that is being cleaned. It makes no difference whether the section of the path is reserved for pedestrians or cycling. In other words, we are not specifically removing grit from cycling paths.

If there is a green strip between the carriageway and the pedestrian and cycling path, grit may also have been removed from sections along the strip and not only from the sections right next to the carriageway. In these areas, the sweeper operator has not considered it necessary to lift up the brush and has continued removing grit from the section, thus ensuring more consistent results.

Vehicle removal requests

If necessary, we will ask people to remove their vehicles from certain areas. If you are looking for a parking space in an area where grit is being removed, please park your car in an area that has already been cleaned. This will allow us to complete the work and achieve better results.

Feedback on maintenance

Our customer service works closely with maintenance staff and informs them about the feedback received.

We ask you to send your feedback directly through the city’s online feedback system(external link, opens in a new window). Both our feedback and telephone services are quite busy from time to time, and waiting times may be long.

If you can, also send us a photo of the site in question. Based on the photo, we will be able to assess the urgency of the situation, which will accelerate the processing of your feedback.

Trimble Feedback mobile app

You can also give location-based feedback through the Trimble Feedback mobile application(external link, opens in a new window). It is a quick way to send a message to customer service, for example concerning a need for maintenance. We go through all mobile feedback and forward it to experts who will take the necessary measures.

Enjoy the sunny spring days!
