Street maintenance situation on 14 April 2023

Grit removal has been delayed due to the slow start of spring. The work has only been underway at full force for the past two weeks. Grit removal is carried out in three stages. The work is expected to be completed at the end of May.

Gritty lawn areas and roadsides

As summer is approaching, residents are wondering whose responsibility it is to remove grit from lawn areas. The city will only remove grit accumulated onto city-owned lawn areas if it hinders the maintenance of the area.

Each plot owner is responsible for the maintenance of the green strip (if under three metres wide) next to their plot. We will only remove the grit from these areas if there is more grit than usual due to the city’s snow-ploughing activities.

If there is a large amount of grit on the strip next to a plot, the owner may sweep it onto the asphalt before the city cleans the site. If the city has already cleaned the asphalt, the plot owner is responsible for removing the excess grit from their lawn area.

A certain amount of grit also benefits the lawn. It makes the soil airy and thus benefits roots. Bumps formed by grit and vegetation must be removed if they prevent water from draining off the road. The city is responsible for removing bumps along city-owned roads. If the road is private, the responsibility for the removal rests with the private road maintenance association or the residents who live along the road.

Park correctly!

An incorrectly parked vehicle may prevent the use of the maintenance equipment. By parking your car according to regulations, you will make life easier for residents, road users and street maintenance staff in the area!

Feedback on maintenance

Our customer service works closely with maintenance staff and informs them about the feedback received. Our maintenance staff cleans the streets systematically, one area at a time.

You can send your feedback directly through the city’s online feedback system(external link, opens in a new window). Both our feedback and telephone services are quite busy from time to time, and waiting times may be long.

If you can, also send us a photo of the site in question. Based on the photo, we will be able to assess the urgency of the situation, which will accelerate the processing of your feedback.

Trimble Feedback mobile app

You can also give location-based feedback through the Trimble Feedback mobile application(external link, opens in a new window). It is a quick way to send a message to customer service, for example concerning a need for maintenance. We go through all mobile feedback and forward it to experts who will take the necessary measures.

Enjoy the spring!
