Espoo has ten birdwatching towers or lower viewing platforms maintained by the city or Metsähallitus. The towers are usually built near water in places where you can easily observe birds when they are migrating or nesting in the area. Towers located in high places are also excellent spots for viewing and enjoying the landscape. The first level of the Elfvik birdwatching tower can also be accessed with a wheelchair or a pram, the other towers are not accessible.

All Espoo residents may fish freely using a hook and line or an ice fishing rod. It is also permitted to fish Baltic herring using a line equipped with 5 to 10 hooks (Finnish: “litka”) specifically designed for this species. Residents under the age of 18 or over the age of 65 do not need to pay the fisheries management fee to the state.
