Espoo has several great destinations for camping. However, camping is not allowed everywhere. Learn the Metsähallitus outdoor etiquette(external link, opens in a new window) and the rules specific for your destination before going on your excursion.

Under the Everyone´s Right(external link, opens in a new window), you are allowed to move around in nature by foot, bicycle and boat, regardless of who owns or possesses the area. In nature reserves and national parks, the right to roam can be restricted in order to protect valuable natural sites. Camping in Espoo’s nature reserves is generally not allowed. The services of the Espoo Central Park are designed for day hiking and recreation, not camping.

Please note that making an open fire is no included in the right to roam! A disposable barbecue is also considered an open fire. As a responsible hiker, you will only make a fire at marked and maintained campfire sites and only when there is no fire forest warning in force.
