Specialised schools, lines and weighted curriculums
All general upper secondary schools in Espoo have a general line (programme) as well as different weighted curriculums, lines and specialisations. Weighted curriculums are reflected in the extended number of optional and applied courses. Contrary to specialised schools and lines (programmes), there aren't special admission criteria to weighted-curriculum studies.

The line/programme is marked as a separate application preference from other studies in the general upper secondary education.
Specialised schools (instruction is given in Finnish)
Students studying in specialised schools can leave out some national obligatory courses and instead choose courses/studies from the school's field of specialisation. The students are selected according to specific admission criteria found from the each school's website. The specialised school's special lines are applied to separately from other studies in the school.

In the second and third years, the language of instruction is English (excluding mother tongue/Finnish and foreign languages). The IB-certificate gives the same eligibility for further studies as the Finnish matriculation examination.
