Rantaradanbaana will be the main cycling route running from the border of Helsinki to Leppävaara and on towards Espoon keskus and an important part of the Espoo cycling route network. Espoo public works has now prepared a draft master plan for Rantaradanbaana between Leppävaara (Säterinpuistontie) and Kauklahti.
The goal of Rantaradanbaana is to develop the pedestrian and cycling routes along the coastal railway line. The planned route is safe and accessible to all users, and it straightens out many detours. At the same time, access to station areas will be improved and bicycle parking spaces added.
The general planning has been carried out in cooperation with the City of Kauniainen and the City Rail Link project. The planning work will continue in autumn 2022 with street and construction planning.
The draft master plan is available for viewing and commenting on the Otakantaa.fi website until 18 September 2022: https://www.otakantaa.fi/fi/hankkeet/771/(external link).
Rantaradanbaana runs partly in rail traffic area, partly outside the area, and partly along existing streets and walkways. The sections of Rantaradanbaana requiring administrative street plans will be displayed separately as the planning work progresses.
The construction of the sections connected to the City Rail Link will take place in connection with the construction of the track by 2028. The implementation schedule of the other sections presented in the master plan will be confirmed at a later stage as financing allows.
