Streets and trafficEspoonlahti

The City of Espoo Public Works Department is currently preparing the street and park plans for the Suinonsalmi local detailed plan area and the upcoming Munkkiranta turning point in the Soukka district.

The project’s street and park plans will be presented on Wednesday 23 November 2022 at 16:30–17:30 at Espoo Public Works Department in Otaniemi, Tekniikantie 15, Bodominjärvi conference room. The properties adjacent to the planning area will be informed of the matter by letter.

Commenting the drafts is possible at the resident event or by email until 28 November 2022.

The Suinonsalmi local detailed plan will complement the Munkkiranta residential area to form a pleasant detached house area close to nature.

The plan includes the improvement of the existing Meri-Hanikka, the construction of the new Kutsumuksenkuja and the new pedestrian and bicycle pathway Munkkirannanpolku from Meri-Hanikka to Munkkiranta. In addition, the Munkkiranta turning point and public road-side parking spaces are being planned.

There is a vehicle access from Kutsumuksenkuja to Suvisaarentie as well as a pedestrian and cycling access to Munkkirannanpolku. The street will be constructed to a 5.0 m wide, asphalt-covered, ending access street in a small-house area with a public parking area and a turning point in the eastern part. The southern part of the street includes a 3.5 m wide pedestrian and cycling street with driving to the plots and maintenance traffic permitted.

Meri-Hanikka will be improved to a 4.5 m wide rock-dust covered pedestrian and cycling street with driving to the plots and maintenance traffic permitted.

Public utility cables and plant structures will be added to the streets.

The local recreational area at the southern side of Suvisaarentie including vehicle access to the block area will be maintained. Crown contact for flying squirrels runs along the length of the recreational area. The trees in the recreational area will be restored and replaced in such a way that the wooded crown contact through the entire area is maintained. A flying squirrel survey was conducted in the area in spring 2022.

The planning process was launched in summer 2022, and the street and park plan proposals will be presented from 30 January to 13 February 2023. The parties concerned will be notified by letter of the presentation in public. The construction is scheduled to start at autumn 2023.
