Kiviruukinkatu and Ruukinmestarintie
Streets and trafficEspoonlahtiEspoo’s Public Works Department has started preparing street and park plans for the northern part of Kiviruukinkatu (between Länsiväylä and Ruukinmestarintie), the eastern part of Ruukinmestarintie (between Ruukintie and Kiviruukinkatu) and the recreational and protective green areas of Ruukinmäki.
Phase
Construction
The northern part of Kiviruukinkatu is currently in a temporary location, crossing block 42004. The project involves preparing plans for the northern part of Kiviruukinkatu, in line with the location specified in the amendment to the Ruukinhuhta detailed plan, which came into effect on 16 February 2022. After the construction of Kiviruukinkatu, the temporary street connection will be removed to enable the development of the block. The project also includes creating plans for the eastern part of Ruukinmestarintie and modifying the dog park currently located in the Ruukinmäki park area and partly in the Kiviruukinkatu street area.
Kiviruukinkatu is an existing street that provides a new street connection between Kiviruukinportti (Länsiväylä underpass) – Ruukinmestarintie, and Ruukinmestarintie is an existing street that is to be renovated between Kiviruukinkatu – Ruukintie.
Kiviruukinkatu between Kiviruukinportti – Ruukinmestarintie is a single roadway street which features a combined pedestrian and bicycle path on the east side of the roadway.
Ruukinmestarintie between Kiviruukinkatu and Ruukintie is single roadway street that has a pedestrian path on its north side. There is a bicycle path on the south side of the roadway and a pedestrian path next to it. There is a separator lane between the roadway and bicycle path, with 3 parallel parking spaces dimensioned for passenger cars. Trees and bushes will be planted in the sections between the parking spaces.
In connection with the proposed street construction works, trees and bushes will be planted and small areas will be finished with surfaces forming meadow environments. The slopes bordering the forest will be landscaped with forest floor vegetation and planted trees. Bushes will be planted on the wider slopes next to the pedestrian and bicycle paths and roadways.
Water supply, telecommunication and energy network lines serving the streets and related block areas will be built in the street areas, along with stormwater drainage.
The wearing courses of the roadways, pedestrian paths and bicycle paths are asphalt. The kerbstones of the roadways are granite.
The street construction works and the retaining wall to be built on Kiviruukinkatu will affect the eastern part of the Ruukinmäki park area (partly protected green area, partly urban forest). The area currently features the Ruukinmäki dog enclosure.
A new pedestrian connection to the dog enclosure will be constructed from Kiviruukinkatu. In addition, a new pedestrian and bicycle route to the dog enclosure will be implemented starting from the junction of Kiviruukinkatu and Ruukinmestarintie in the north. It will also act as a service route for the dog enclosure. Preliminary enclosures will be built next to the entrance gates of the dog enclosure. At present, the dog enclosure is divided into separate enclosures for small and large dogs. To ensure that both owners of large and small dogs have unhindered access to the dog enclosure, the fence separating the enclosures for small and large dogs will be removed and the enclosures will be combined into one large enclosure. Otherwise, the dog enclosure will remain in its current form.
The slopes of the retaining wall will be landscaped with bushes and planted trees.
There is a local ecological connection through Ruukinmäki park from northwest to southeast, which will be strengthened by planting more trees on the south side of the dog enclosure and on the southeast edge of Kiviruukinkatu.
The roadways will be lit by lamp posts with a height of 10 meters placed on the edges of the street areas. Ruukinmestarintie’s pedestrian and bicycle path, as well as the park paths and the dog enclosure, will be lit with separate lamps, featuring posts that are 6 metres high.
The streets and park sections are planned to be completed in 2025–2026.
The draft street plan is available for comments on the Otakantaa.fi website from 15 to 29 November 2024. On the website, you can post your comments and ask questions about the plan. You can access the otakantaa.fi service through this link.(external link, opens in a new window)
After the draft plan stage, the street plan proposal will be finalised and made available for public review at 17.2.-3.3.2025. The interested parties will be informed of the public review period separately by post.
Street construction work is expected to start in the summer of 2025 at the earliest.
