Prepare your bike for the changing season and ride safely all year round

Autumn is a good time to check and service your bicycle to ensure that it is safe to ride throughout the year. You can service your bicycle yourself or take it to a professional repair shop. Also make sure that your lights and reflectors are working properly to stay visible in traffic during the darker months.

As winter approaches, you should start preparing for snowy and icy conditions. If you are not yet a winter cyclist, you can find practical tips on how to get started in the Cycle4Climate quick guide. Studded tyres make riding more stable in slippery conditions. Last winter, the Cycle4Climate project carried out a trial in which a small group of participants were given studded tyres for the winter season. Based on the participants’ feedback, riding with studded tyres significantly increased both the safety and enjoyment of cycling.

Workplaces can also encourage winter cycling in many ways, for example by providing suitable facilities and equipment. Read more about the results and tips from the commuter cycling development workshops.
