More (than) Biking Lab (Cycle4Climate)

Commuter cycling as a driver for a more sustainable working life

The ”More (than) Biking Lab” workshop series brings together employers and organizations in the Tapiola-Otaniemi-Keilaniemi area to develop and promote commuter cycling in the region, in collaboration with the city and the Cycle4Climate development project. The aim is to improve staff well-being, reduce emissions, and foster networking among professionals in the area.

Using cycling as an everyday mode of transport has many positive effects, such as on health and well-being, costs, local traffic emissions, mobility equality, and the attractiveness of the urban environment. Cycling is accessible to almost everyone and does not require major investments, and investments in commuter cycling also help engage employees.

Co-creation and peer-learning

The ”More (than) Biking Lab” consists of three co-creation workshops, as well as pilot clinics that further process the results of the workshops. In the workshops, concrete ways to increase commuter cycling are developed and best practices and expert support are shared. The workshop themes are (1) light ’nudges’ for commuter cycling, (2) supporting commuter cycling in winter, and (3) cycling ambassadors and support for sustainable mobility.

Outputs
Why should commuter cycling be promoted within your organization—and where should you start? The development ideas generated during the different stages and discussions of the workshop series have been compiled into a guide booklet. The guide provides practical tips for promoting commuter cycling in employer organizations.
