The detailed plan for Tiistinlaakso, located near the Matinkylä metro station, is entering the proposal stage. The new plan involves a reduction in the permitted building volume and an increase in green areas, and take into account feedback from residents.

The Tiistinlaakso detailed plan is entering the proposal stage. The plan area is mainly owned by the city and serves as an important complementary building area near the Matinkylä metro station.

The plan proposal includes new plans, such as a completely new block plan. Previously provided feedback from residents and stakeholders has been influential in shaping the proposal.

New plan drawn up for the area

The new plan includes a reduction in the permitted building volume. It includes housing for around 840 people. At least 60 places in service housing will be provided. The heights of the blocks of flats reflect the scale of the surroundings, and the height variations are intended to give the area a multi-faceted character. The idea is for the foundations of the buildings to be used as commercial premises.

The aim for the plan area to become urban and pleasant. The residential development planned near the centre of Matinkylä would consist of elongated blocks of flats built along the streets. The residential blocks of flats planned further away are planned to be diverse buildings with different colours and ridged roofs.

The distance between the buildings and the street area varies, and small green open spaces, or pocket parks, are planned between the buildings. The aim is to promote a varied urban nature and add greenery to the courtyards and the street space.

The proposal takes into account the needs of the elderly by providing service housing at the end of Kalaonnentie. Service housing would thus be located close to the planned Matinkylä Life and Living Centre, giving residents the opportunity to make use of the centre’s services.

The proposal also includes a four-group day-care centre in the area. Based on feedback from residents, the day-care centre has been located further south in Kalatorpanpuisto in the new plan. The new location provides direct access to Suomenlahdentie, which will improve the flow of pick-up and drop-off traffic

Natural values and routes of the flying squirrel to be better safeguarded

The western edge of the area is forest, which serves as a protected zone for the Finnoviken bird area and an important route for flying squirrels.  More space has now been reserved for this route than in the previous reference plans.

The location of buildings and the connection of courtyards to green areas have been carefully considered, in particular to ensure the vitality of the tree stand. In further planning, the connection can be improved through nature management and supplementary planting. The intention is also to preserve more of Kalatorpanpuisto.

Compared to previous plans, the above-mentioned factors will better promote the preservation of the routes of the flying squirrel that pass through the plan area. This will help to ensure that the habitats of the flying squirrel in the area remain functional. In addition, the biodiversity of the area can be preserved in larger entities.

Improved pedestrian traffic safety and cycling connections

A metro line runs below the plan area. One of the entrances to the Matinkylä metro station is located next to the new Matinkylä general upper secondary school and is close to the plan area. The metro tunnel and the service pit in the plan area are taken into account in the plan.

The intention is to build a cycling path between the centre of Matinkylä and Finnoo, on the southern side of Suomenlahdentie. This would improve traffic in the area.
