Espoo medal recipients 2024

The Espoo medal has been awarded to 16 people in recognition of their work for the benefit of the City of Espoo. The 2024 Espoo medals will be presented at the Independence Day Gala Concert available online on 6 Dec at 14:30.

The recipients of the Espoo medal are:

  • Mervi Airaksinen, Managing Director of Microsoft Finland
  • Leif Beilinson, local community advocate
  • Tony Hagerlund, local heritage advocate
  • Pekka and Teemu Hakala, owners and managers of Ravintola Grilli Toro
  • Kim Hirschovits, Sports Manager at Kiekko-Espoo
  • Saara Hyrkkö, Member of City Council
  • Olli Isotalo, Deputy Mayor for Urban Environment
  • Teemu Keisteri and Henri Piispanen, Artist duo aka Windows95man
  • Heli Koivuniemi, Editor-in-Chief of Länsiväylä
  • Mia Laiho, Member of City Council
  • Janne Laine, Vice President at Aalto University
  • Sami Nevalainen, entrepreneur
  • Harri Rinta-aho, Deputy Mayor for Growth and Learning
  • Anni Simola, Chairperson of Espoon ympäristöyhdistys

The Espoo medal, designed by medal artist Kauko Räsänen, has been awarded to more than 500 people since 1972 in recognition of their work for the benefit of the city. The recipients are chosen by the medal committee of the City of Espoo.
