The Espoo medal

Espoo medals have been awarded since 1972. More than 500 people have received the medal in recognition of their work for the benefit of Espoo.

The Espoo medal was designed by sculptor and medal artist Kauko Räsänen, who used to live in Soukka. Räsänen has also designed the doors and reliefs of the City Council Hall, among other things.

The medals are awarded by the Espoo medal committee and handed out annually at the city’s Independence Day gala concert on 6 December.

The medal committee consists of the chairpersons of the City Council, the chairperson of the City Board and the Mayor. The city’s Director of Communications acts as the secretary.
