World Food Safety Day is celebrated on 7 June 2024

7.6.2024 7.19

Today is World Food Safety Day. The City of Espoo also has its own food safety experts who promote the safety of food every day.

This year’s theme is being prepared for the unexpected. Unexpected situations affecting food safety include food poisoning epidemics, fraudulent activities and natural phenomena.

Espoo Region Environmental Health Services is responsible for food control in Espoo, Kirkkonummi and Kauniainen. Health inspectors and veterinarians monitor food production, transport, sales, serving and marketing. Their monitoring activities include inspecting restaurants, online stores and food production establishments and taking samples of food products and drinking water. Espoo Region Environmental Health Services is part of Espoo’s Environment and Building Control Department.

Food safety is everyone’s responsibility

In Finland, food control results concerning food businesses are available to everyone, as they are presented in public Oiva reports. You can find a company’s Oiva reports at its entrance or on its website. You can also find the information on the oivahymy.fi(external link, opens in a new window) website.
