A new bike every day – now it is possible again! You can hop on a city bike from the first day of April. The maximum ride time has been doubled, and you can buy your season pass now.

The 2024 city bike season starts on 1 April and lasts until the end of October. You can buy your season pass now. Passes for shorter periods will become available when the season starts. The HSL Journey Planner shows all bike stations, the number of bikes available at each station and the best route to each station.

Longer ride time

In 2024, you can use city bikes twice as long at a time. In Helsinki and Espoo, the ride time has been extended to 60 minutes. Customers have wished for a longer ride time, and it will be tested this season.

All city bike passes include an unlimited number of one-hour rides during their period of validity. If you use a bike for more than 60 minutes at a time, an additional EUR 1.00 will be charged for every 30 minutes. The maximum time of use is five hours. After five hours, a late fee of EUR 80 will be charged in addition to the extra charges.

Most popular bike stations in Espoo located at metro stations and Leppävaara railway station

In Espoo, the city bike area covers the eastern part of the city, close to the Helsinki border. The area includes all metro stations from Keilaniemi to Matinkylä. There are also city bike stations in Leppävaara, Laajalahti, Olari and Haukilahti, for example. City bikes are a convenient first-and-last-mile solution. Therefore, it is no surprise that the most popular bike stations are located at metro stations and at the Leppävaara railway station.

The map shows the locations of city bike stations in Espoo in 2024. The ten most popular stations in 2023 are highlighted on the map.

Buy a city bike pass for the entire season, a month, a week or a day

You can already buy a season pass for Helsinki and Espoo at hsl.fi/citybikes(external link, opens in a new window). A pass for the entire seven-month season costs EUR 35.

As of 1 April, you can also buy a pass for a shorter period, either for a day (EUR 5) or a week (EUR 10). An auto-renewing monthly subscription (EUR 10 per month) was launched last spring and is now included in the product range permanently. Last year’s subscriptions will not be renewed automatically at the beginning of the new season.

Registration and use

You will need an HSL account for registration. You can register at hsl.fi/citybikes(external link, opens in a new window). During registration, you need to provide your debit/credit card details and set a four-digit PIN code. The system will give you a personal cyclist ID. You will need your cyclist ID and PIN code every time you pick up a bike at a bike station. If you like, you can use your HSL card instead of your cyclist ID if you have registered it as an identification method.

All bike stations become available during April

Due to challenging weather conditions, all bike stations cannot be installed by 1 April. However, the goal is to have all the stations installed during April. You can see all the available stations on the city bike page(external link, opens in a new window) and in the HSL Journey Planner. If you allow the Journey Planner to use your location, it will show your closest bike stations, the number of bikes available at each station and the best route to the selected station. You can obtain the same information by entering your address in the Journey Planner. You can find the Journey Planner on the HSL app and at hsl.fi/en(external link, opens in a new window).
