Railway signalling system work will cause changes in train traffic between Leppävaara and Kauklahti on four Sundays in March and April 2023. The work is related to the Espoo City Rail Link project, for which preparations are now starting.

Preparations are being made to launch the construction of the major project, and this includes upgrading the railway signalling systems. Trains will not run during the upgrading of the systems. The aim of the preparatory work is to ensure an efficient schedule when the actual construction work starts in late 2023, according to the current schedule.

Train traffic suspended on weekends

Trains will not run between Leppävaara and Kauklahti from 4:00 on Sunday morning until 4:00 on Monday morning on the following dates:

  • Sunday 5 March 2023
  • Sunday 12 March 2023
  • Sunday 19 March 2023
  • Sunday 2 April 2023

In addition to commuter trains, the signalling system work also affects long-distance train services between Helsinki and Kirkkonummi.

Changes in commuter train services

Commuter trains E and U will not run on the above-mentioned Sundays. L trains will be suspended starting from the 3:03 departure from Helsinki and the 4:57 departure from Kirkkonummi. One L train in both directions will also be cancelled in the early hours of the Mondays in question.

The first Monday morning trains will run according to normal schedules. The first L train departs from Kirkkonummi at 4:27 and from Helsinki at 4:33.

The cancelled trains will be replaced by A trains between Leppävaara and Helsinki. They will run more frequently on the above-mentioned Sundays. HSL will also organise bus services to replace the cancelled E, U and L trains.

Changes in long-distance train services

On the above-mentioned Sundays, long-distance trains will be replaced by buses between Helsinki and Kirkkonummi. Trains will run between Kirkkonummi and Kupittaa (Turku) as usual, with the exception of some individual services. You can find schedules and information on replacement buses on the hsl.fi website and the HSL app, as well as through the trip search function on the vr.fi website and the VR Matkalla app.

Long-distance trains will run as usual on Mondays.

Replacement buses

The replacement buses will run from Leppävaara to Kauklahti and Kirkkonummi via all the stations in between, with the exception of the Kera station. An additional replacement bus service will also run between Espoon keskus and Elielinaukio in Helsinki during the suspension of train services.
