New residential and commercial construction is being planned to replace the Haukilahti shopping centre and commercial centre. The planning is at its early stages, and residents have the opportunity to review the plans and comment on them as the city planning progresses.

The planning area is located in the centre of Haukilahti, by the junctions of the streets Haukilahdenkatu, Hauenkalliontie and Haukilahdenranta. The location is currently occupied by an one-storey shopping centre completed in 1962 and a two-storey commercial centre completed in 1990.

The city plan amendment was applied for by the landowners of the area in cooperation with YIT Suomi Oy. Additionally, city-owned street and market square areas and the parking areas of the Haukilahti Seniorikoti and Espoo Asunnot have been connected to the planning area so that the centre can be planned as a harmonious entity.

Commercial premises, apartments, and pleasant surroundings for pedestrians

The city aims to ensure that the new building serves the development of the city district and the needs of the people living and running errands in the area. How the construction can be fitted to the current townscape as well as possible will be examined during the city planning. The central city block would also support the operations in its close environment.

The aim is that the new residential construction and modern commercial and service premises will create the conditions for a lively centre. A high-quality milieu with attractive pedestrian and bicycle opportunities is being planned for the area. Commercial premises that continue onto the streets, a market square, and verdant yards will bring the townscape to life. Parking spaces are being built underground as well and the traffic arrangements will be improved.

Residents have the opportunity to participate in the planning at an early stage

The City Planning Committee set the objectives for the city plan amendment on 19 January 2022. The preparations for the city plan amendment have been started based on the objectives. Next, the City Planning Department will prepare a participation and assessment plan. It will also present the objectives decided by the committee and the preliminary reference plans. The reference plan has been developed during the spring and autumn and the newest plan has been presented to the local residents’ association. The participation and assessment plan and the preparatory material will be made publicly available in the period between 23 January and 21 February 2023.

During that period, the local residents, landowners, entrepreneurs and other involved parties have the opportunity to review the preliminary plans and comment on them. Early in the year, a residents’ event will be organised concerning the plans. The event will be an opportunity to discuss the area with the town plan designers. The designers will take the feedback into account when preparing the plan proposal.

The City Planning Department will announce when the plan will be made available with a public notice, on the project plan website and to the close neighbours by letters.
