‘Penkkarit’ lorry parade in Espoo on Thursday 9 February 2023

Penkinpainajaisissa lukioiden abiturientit juhlivat lukulomalle lähtöä riemukkaissa tunnelmissa.

The final-year students’ lorry parade departs from the parking area of the Tapiola sports park at 11:00, heading first to Olari and Matinkylä. Residents are welcome to take part in the festivities, admire the creative banners and costumes and, of course, collect candy thrown to the crowd by the cheerful students.

Final-year students of general upper secondary schools will be celebrating their last day of school on Thursday 9 February, after which they will start preparing for the matriculation examination.

The celebration is called ‘penkkarit’ – a tradition that dates back a hundred years or so. ‘Penkkarit’ culminates in the students’ lorry parade. Residents are welcome to take part in the festivities, admire the creative banners and costumes and, of course, collect candy thrown to the crowd by the cheerful students.
