Espoo's Growth and Learning Sector will attend the Educa fair in Helsinki on 27 and 28 January 2023. Educa is Finland's largest teaching education event, with a varied and interesting programme and a wide range of exhibitors.

Come to the City of Espoo's Educa stand at the Espoo Exhibition Centre on 27 and 28 January to meet the staff of Espoo's day-care centres, schools and upper secondary schools and to talk about what it's like to work in Espoo and what opportunities Espoo offers for employees in early childhood education, basic education and upper secondary education. A representative from Espoon Asunnot will also be present at the stand to provide information on how the city can help someone moving to Espoo to find accommodation.

It is important to us that children and young people, together with their carers, are involved in planning our activities throughout their learning path.

In Espoo, we support each child according to their strengths and abilities, and we look for natural ways for each child and young person to develop and learn through interaction with others. In particular, we are responding to growing welfare challenges and ensuring that welfare disparities such as child poverty are not allowed to grow.

Come and hear about the Espoo learning path, pedagogy and what it's like to work in Espoo

Early childhood education experts will tell visitors to the Espoo stand about their work in day-care centres, group day-care centres and family day care in Espoo.

We will tell you about the pedagogy of early childhood education in Espoo; for example the new ECEC plan, the activities of the Positive Learning company, early childhood education on the move or even how child support is organised in Espoo. The diverse use of digital pedagogy is also a speciality of Espoo – come and see and hear what this means in practice!

We are also happy to tell you about the mentoring of new employees in Espoo's early childhood education and care system and the extensive training opportunities for early childhood education and care staff.

And do you already know what MoominLanguage is? You can find out at our stand!

You can ask the education experts about the functioning of basic education and upper secondary schools, sustainable development activities in these schools, the development of education and cooperation between different stakeholders. Teaching is supported by tools such as Positive Learning's Vahvuusvaris and Someturva (social media safety) to help both pupils and staff.

For example, experts in upper secondary education will explain how cultural instructors who have just started at upper secondary schools can help young people from an immigrant background to succeed in upper secondary school and on their learning path.

An interesting programme and a chance to win a great cultural weekend in Espoo

Every year, Educa's programme features around 200 acts and 450 performers on several stages and in the seminar room. Harri Rinta-aho, Head of Education and Cultural Services at the City of Espoo, will discuss the topic "Student care through cooperation between the municipality and the wellbeing services county – how to avoid pitfalls" in the panel on the first day of the fair at 13.30.

Another reason to visit our stand is that you can enter a prize draw to win a cultural weekend package for two. The prize includes a night in a hotel, dinner, a visit to a museum in Espoo and public transport tickets. You can enter the competition by scanning a QR code at the stand.

Children can colour the illustrations of the book ‘Peek into Espoo’ at our stand. Those who leave their contact details will be entered into a prize draw for ‘Peep into Espoo’ books. The book is the result of a collaboration between pre-school groups in Espoo and illustrator Carlos Da Cruz. The children had the opportunity to comment on sketches and make requests for illustration contents. In connection with the book project, the participating children’s thoughts were also collected for the purpose of updating of the city’s strategy, the Espoo Story.

You can find the City of Espoo at stand number 6m59. Admission to the event is free. Come along!
