Mankki level crossing to be closed
The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency will close the level crossing located next to the old Mankki train stop in November. The popular pedestrian and cycling route will not be available after week 47.
Motor vehicles have not been able to cross the tracks in years, but the level crossing has offered a pedestrian and cycling route between Kauklahti and Lasilaakso. The route has been popular among those visiting the Espoonlahti nature reserve.
The level crossing has often been vandalised, and the system with outdated technology regularly causes problems to train traffic. According to the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the removal of the level crossing will ensure a smoother and safer flow of traffic on the coastal railway line.
From now on, the closest pedestrian and cycling routes are located in Luoma (level crossing) and Masala (underpasses) in the west and on Kauklahdenväylä (underpass) and at the Kauklahti railway station (underpasses) in the east.
You can see the new pedestrian and cycling routes on the map. Signs will also be placed in the area.
