The project plan for the extension of Espoo Cultural Centre is about to be discussed by the City Board. The extension will involve a new theatre hall, which will replace the Revontuli Hall currently used by Espoo City Theatre.

The extension will provide Espoo City Theatre with good and functional new facilities. The theatre will not only increase the size of the Cultural Centre, but also make its facilities even more versatile.

The planned extension includes the theatre hall, a practice hall and accompanying facilities. The auditorium will have a seating capacity of approximately 500 and can be adapted and extended when necessary. The theatre hall and accompanying facilities are being designed as an integral part of the current Cultural Centre to facilitate the optimal use of the lobby facilities and various services for visitors, for example.

The goal is to turn the square into a pleasant and harmonious urban space surrounded by office and business premises, services and housing.

“The extension to the Cultural Centre and the plans for Kulttuuriaukio square will lay the groundwork for a vibrant and appealing urban space. They are key pull factors for Tapiola and Espoo as a whole,” says Deputy Mayor for Urban Environment Olli Isotalo.

The pedestrian and cycling routes on the side of the Keskusallas pool and Kaupinkalliontie will also be improved.

The building of the extension could begin in winter 2024, in which case it could be ready for use in the 2027 autumn season.

According to preliminary estimates, the extension would cost approximately 60 million euros.

We are also currently preparing an amendment to the local detailed plan for the surroundings of Kulttuuriaukio square in Tapiola, which will enable the building of new business and office premises, services and housing around the square in addition to the expansions of the Cultural Centre.
