Espoo’s second family centre to open in Niittykumpu in 2023

3.7.2022 22.00

The new Niittykumpu Family Centre will offer a variety of services for families in the Matinkylä, Olari, Tapiola and Espoonlahti areas in one building. The renovation of the building will especially focus on creating functional and pleasant facilities. The Family Centre will open its doors in the autumn of 2023.

The new Niittykumpu Family Centre will be located at Niittyportti 4, between Länsiväylä and the Niittykumpu metro station, and will be easy to reach by public transport. The services moving to the building are the Tapiola maternity and child health clinic, children’s rehabilitation services, family counselling, family social work, the Child Psychiatric Unit and child welfare services.

This will be the second family centre in Espoo. The first one, located in Espoon keskus, already offers services for local families under one roof. The Niittykumpu Family Centre will be a workplace for some 190 people.

–  Family centre activities are being developed in Espoo and the rest of the Western Uusimaa region. Family centres offer better work and client facilities. Families receive a wider range of services, while our staff have better facilities for multidisciplinary work, says Director of Family and Social Services Mari Ahlström.

The building in Niittykumpu will be renovated, and a new modern lobby will be built in the entrance area. The Family Centre’s facilities will be located on the second floor. The facilities are being planned and built to meet the needs of family services and to support cooperation between professionals. Families will receive the services they need conveniently under the same roof.

The developer of the property is HGR Property Partners Oy, with which the city has concluded a 15-year lease. The architecture firm PES-Arkkitehdit Oy is involved in the planning of the renovation, and the contractor is NCC. The aim is to open the Family Centre in the autumn of 2023.

–  It is wonderful to be involved in creating safe and pleasant facilities for children, families and staff. The building will include appointment and group work rooms of different sizes and bright public spaces with a view of the garden. We will also take account of the experiences gained from the Espoon keskus Family Centre to ensure the best possible facilities for the users, says Property Development Director Ilkka Mäkelä from HGR Property Partners Oy.
