CultureEspoo to partner with Helsinki Pride
CultureEspoo is an official partner of Helsinki Pride in 2022. Helsinki Pride is the most influential human rights and culture event in Finland, bringing people together and making room for all the colours of the rainbow.
“I am absolutely delighted that we can play our part in making cultural life in Espoo more equal and inclusive,” says Cultural Director Susanna Tommila.
The values and operating principles of the Espoo Story set out that Espoo is fair. This is also the principle on which the Cultural Services’ partnership is based.
“At the same time, however, we have to acknowledge out loud that we are not there yet. We are aware that we must work to ensure that sexual and gender minorities feel safe in all our spaces and events,” says Tommila.
As part of the Helsinki Pride partnership, Cultural Services staff will be trained on diversity and equality issues. Furthermore, the Cultural Unit will introduce the safer space principles during 2022.
Various cultural locations will be flying the rainbow flag during Pride Week.
The Cultural Unit includes KAMU Espoo City Museum, Espoo City Library, City Orchestra Tapiola Sinfonietta, Event and Cultural Services and Cultural Promotion Services.
