School place decisions of upcoming first-graders delayed
In its meeting on 20 April 2022, the Education and Early Education Committee decided to postpone the placement of new school pupils as regards the Tapiola area and special needs classes. The Committee will resume its deliberation on the matter in its next meeting on 4 May 2022. As a result, all school place decisions have been delayed.
The delay concerns local school decisions, special needs decisions and decisions on weighted-curriculum education and preparatory education in Finnish basic education, which were supposed to be published on 27 April.
According to the new schedule, the decisions will be sent out and published on Tuesday 10 May 2022. As a result, the dates for applying to a secondary school have also been changed to 23 May, 10 June and 1 August. The school place decision will be delivered either electronically via Wilma or by post, based on the option selected on the application form. The electronic decision can be viewed on 10 May on the browser version of Wilma on the Applications and decisions tab. The decision cannot be viewed on the Wilma mobile application.
Paper decisions will be delivered during calendar week 20 (the week starting on 16 May). Special needs decisions are always delivered by post. The decision will also be delivered by post if enrolment in first grade was carried out after the application period.
Notice of the delay will also be sent via Wilma to guardians who have already created Wilma accounts.
Application periods for school transport and afternoon activities
The application period for school transport is being extended to 30 May. Guardians can submit school transport applications and their appendices even if their child’s school place is not yet known. Information on the school place will be taken into account in the processing of the transport application.
The application period for basic education afternoon activities ends on 16 May, and decisions will be delivered either via Wilma or by post, based on the option selected on the application form. You do not need to know your child’s school place for the application, as afternoon activities will be arranged at the child’s school.
