School place decisions for new first-graders to be published as of 2 May

29.4.2022 13.00

School place decisions for new first-graders will be published as of 2 May. The Growth and Learning Committee held an extraordinary meeting on 28 April and discussed the items concerning the placement of new first-graders that were not discussed at the previous meeting.

On 25 April, we announced that school place decisions for new first-graders will be delayed. The Growth and Learning Committee decided to hold an extraordinary meeting on 28 April where it made decisions on the placement of new first-graders in the Tapiola area and in special needs education. For this reason, it will be possible to publish the decisions a little earlier.

Decisions to be published as of 2 May

School place decisions will be sent out and published on Monday 2 May or as soon as possible after that. This schedule applies to local school decisions, special needs decisions, and decisions on weighted-curriculum education and preparatory education in Finnish basic education.

The school place decision will be sent either online via Wilma or by post, based on the option selected on the application form. The electronic decision can be viewed on the browser version of Wilma under the Applications and decisions tab. The decision cannot be viewed on the Wilma mobile application. Decisions published on Wilma will not be sent by post. Those who selected an electronic decision will receive an email from the school when the decision is available on Wilma.

A paper decision will be mailed to the guardians who chose that option. The decision will reach the guardians the following week after it is mailed. Special support decisions are always sent by post. The decision will also be delivered by post if enrolment in first grade took place after the application period. Paper decisions will not be published on Wilma, and it is not possible to inquire about the contents of a decision by telephone.

For additional information, please contact the decision-maker mentioned on the decision.

You can submit a request for an administrative review within 14 days of receiving the decision. The date of service is recorded in the decision.

Municipal sector strike may delay the decisions

If carried out, the municipal sector strike will have major impacts on the organisation of basic education and the related administrative services. The strike may also delay our school place decisions.

Application periods for school transport and afternoon activities

The application period for school transport ends on 16 May. Guardians can submit school transport applications and their appendices even if their child’s school place is not yet known. Information on the school place will be taken into account in the processing of the transport application.

The application period for basic education afternoon activities ends on 16 May, and decisions will be delivered either via Wilma or by post, based on the option selected on the application form. You do not need to know your child’s school place for the application, as afternoon activities will be arranged at the child’s school.
