Mayor’s innovation competition for companies and staff opens again
The City of Espoo again invites Espoo-based companies and city personnel to develop the city together. This year will mark the 50th anniversary of Espoo as a city. What will the next few decades look like for the city? We invite you to participate in the Mayor’s Innovation Competition to innovate a shared, sustainable future. Registration begins on 6 April 2022 and ends on 24 May 2022.
The competition seeks innovations and ideas to help us improve services provided for Espoo residents and develop practices in keeping with the Espoo Story. We are particularly looking for innovations that focus on the clients and city residents, providing them with better services or involving them as partners in the development work.
The competition is also meant to raise awareness of the continuous, innovative development work carried out in Espoo.
“The cornerstone of our innovation work is doing things together, in line with the Make with Espoo spirit. With Espoo as a city turning 50 this year, this is an excellent milestone to come up with ideas to help us keep Espoo the best place to live, learn, work and do business also in the future,” says Mayor Jukka Mäkelä.
Is your idea already implemented or still under development?
The 2022 competition is seeking resident- and client-oriented innovations in the following two categories:
- Innovations: New innovations that have already proven to solve challenges efficiently or productively.
- Potential innovations: New innovations that are still in the development phase and have the potential to solve challenges effectively or productively.
Thus, you may enter an existing innovation that has already produced a great many results or a fresh one that will yield a harvest in the future.
Start looking for ideas
Officially, the competition will open on 6 April 2022. The participation instructions and evaluation criteria are published on the espoo.fi website in March.
“Espoo-based companies and the City of Espoo’s work communities should already start thinking about any reforms or ideas to enter into the competition,” Mäkelä suggests.
To be successful in the competition, your innovation should be client-oriented and novel and have contributed or have the potential to contribute to making the respective operation smoother, more productive and more effective.
A jury from Excellence Finland will evaluate the applications and select the finalists, who will be informed of their selection in late June/early July. The finalists will be invited to give a brief presentation of their innovation at the City of Espoo management forum in late August, and the winners will be announced in October. The winners will receive cash prizes.
