Children’s day-care attendance times to be reserved electronically

21.3.2022 10.58

The electronic eVaka service makes it easy for guardians to reserve day-care attendance times and report any changes to the child’s day-care centre.

The City of Espoo early childhood education uses the electronic eVaka service for communication between guardians and day-care centres. We are constantly developing eVaka, and new functions are gradually being introduced. In March, we will introduce in the Finnish speaking early childhood education attendance times reservation and reporting absences in the service.

Up until now, the challenge has been that the children’s actual attendance times have differed significantly from those agreed with families. This has made it difficult for us to plan our activities and make correct staff reservations. It has also led to additional costs.

In the future, guardians will reserve their children’s attendance times and report any absences at eVaka. The children’s attendance times and absences will be reported to the day-care centre on a weekly level. Evaka makes it easy for guardians to report any changes and update their children’s information when necessary.

It is important that you report your child’s current attendance times at eVaka. This way, we can reserve enough staff, plan for group activities, and order the correct number of meals and special-diet meals. In terms of safety, it is also necessary that we know in advance when your child will be present at day-care.

How will attendance and absences be reported from now on?

  • As of 21 March 2022, you can reserve attendance times for your child for April and beyond.
  • Reserve your child’s attendance times and possible holidays and days off at eVaka by 6:00 pm on Monday of the previous week.
  • Children’s day-care attendance times will be reserved to an accuracy of 10 minutes.
  • If your child has a regular daily attendance time, you can make a reservation for several weeks or months at a time and then specify the reservations at a closer date.
  • If your child falls ill or is unable to attend day-care for another sudden reason, report the absence through eVaka. Such absences can also be reported in the system on the same day.
  • Reserve attendance times for your child also if your child only attends pre-primary education (9 am–1 pm) or free early childhood education for 5-year-olds (4 hours per day).
