Espoo’s swimming pools and indoor sports facilities open as of 1 February – small-scale cultural and sports events allowed

The Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland (AVI) has decided that sports and recreational facilities can be opened as of 1 February. As of Tuesday, public events with a maximum of 50 participants may also be held indoors if the events have assigned seating. The number of participants at outdoor events is not limited. Following the decision of the coronavirus coordination group for the Helsinki metropolitan area on 1 February, a Covid passport is not required at the city’s sports and cultural facilities, public events or recreational activities for the time being.

Culture: Libraries and museums are open – small-scale public events allowed as of 1 February

  • Cultural events can be organised for small audiences as of 1 February. Some events will be postponed or cancelled. The city’s cultural venues (Sello Hall, Cultural Centre, Kannusali, Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora, Exhibition Centre WeeGee and Vindängen) provide up-to-date event information on their websites. Following AVI’s decision, public events with a maximum of 50 participants can be held indoors if all participants have assigned seats.
  • Libraries and museums are open. However, arrangements will be made on the premises to prevent the risk of infection caused by close contact between participants and groups.
  • A Covid passport is no longer required at public events, cultural venues or museums. The situation will be re-assessed after the national Covid passport guidelines have been specified.

Sports: Swimming pools and indoor sports facilities open as of 1 February

  • The city’s swimming pools and indoor sports facilities will open their doors on 1 February and resume their normal operations. All facilities will comply with current health and safety guidelines. A Covid passport is not required for entry.
  • Exercise classes and courses will start gradually. We will provide further information on schedules later.
