At the first of this year’s Museum Lounges, we identify places in Siikajärvi depicted in old photos

Are you familiar with Pohjois-Espoo? Our curator of photography tries their best to identify where the photos in the museum’s collection have been taken but help in this regard is always welcome.

In our photograph collection there are many old photos from Siikajärvi. These photos became part of the collection through a collecting competition in 1976-1977. Unfortunately, however, the available information regarding the places and people depicted is incomplete. Join us to see if you recognise any of the places or just to chat about memories from Siikajärvi!

At the Museum Lounge in February, which is held in English, we discuss the history of Espoo and its citizens, and in April we familiarise ourselves with the world of embroidery. In March, Museum Educator Jenni Siltainsuu introduces us to research into ancient DNA and life in pre-historic Espoo. Apart from during the session in February, the discussions are held in Finnish.

The monthly discussion sessions are held virtually through Teams. Everyone is welcome to participate in the discussions or simply listen in as we discuss various interesting topics. You sign up to each session separately by providing your email address. You will receive a link to the event in an email sent to the address you provided. On your computer, you can join the event through your browser, but on a mobile device you will need to download the Teams application first.
