Colourful Pride benches in our street view
The Tapiola bench designed by Aarne Ervi is a familiar part of the Espoo cityscape. This classic seat can now be admired in Pride colours all over the city.
The first rainbow-coloured bench was introduced in June in honour of Pride Week. A wood workshop operating under the Public Works Department came up with the concept of the Pride bench, and it was nominated for a TASSU prize annually awarded by the Equality Committee of the City of Espoo. The bench is a symbol of the tolerance and equality work carried out in the city and deservedly won an honorary mention at the TASSU contest.
The aim of the TASSU prize is to promote activities that advance equality and equal opportunities. In accordance with the Espoo story, belonging to a community is a democratic right of every Espoo resident, something that does not need to be earned. Espoo lives up to its resident- and client-oriented values.
Eight pieces of these show-stopping benches have been made. They are located at the intersection of Louhentie and Pohjantie in Tapiola, in Matinniitty, Matinkylä, in Kuitinmäenraitti, Olari, in Kongsberginpuisto park, Espoonlahti, in Pitäjänportti, Espoon keskus, in Kylvöpellonpolku, Niipperi, in Kirsikkapuisto park, Leppävaara and at Kauklahti Station.
Go take a seat and admire!
