The Ämmässuo waste treatment centre is located on the border between Espoo and Kirkkonummi, which is managed by the Helsinki Region Environmental Services joint municipality authority (HSY). There are various circular economy activities in the area and the name of the area is currently Ämmässuo eco-industry centre. In addition to these, HSY processes biowaste from the capital region in Ämmässuo, and special waste is accepted at the landfill. Ämmässuo has several environmental permits for various activities, which have been granted by the Regional Administrative Agency of Southern Finland. The main supervisor of environmental permits is the Uusimaa Business, Transport and Environment Centre (ELY Center), which is the competent authority. In the City of Espoo, supervision belongs to the Environment and Building Control Department.
