Koto-Espoo offers integration services to people in Espoo who are not in the workforce, such as persons over 65 who have received their first residence permit less than three years ago. Koto-Espoo provides individual guidance and advice on language studies, wellbeing, and services in Espoo.

Koto-Espoo arranges many different group activities, such as language courses and civic orientations (Welcome to Finland courses). Its activities are free of charge.

We can help you in simple Finnish, English, or your own language. You can ask for an interpreter on the phone: just say “tulkki albania,” for example.

An ageing person may need help with everyday life and coping at home.

Western Uusimaa Senior Info helps and advises people over the age of 65 and their families and friends. Contact the service if, for example,

• you need help living at home or you can no longer live at home.
• you need help with moving around.
• you want to act as a caretaker for your spouse or parent.

Senior Info employees are looking for different solutions and options with you. You will find information about the services. In health matters, always contact the health care centre.

Espoo offers a variety of guided sports groups for senior residents. Guided physical activities for senior residents aims to maintain and improve physical fitness, improve functional capacity and serve as recreation. Their range includes various callisthenics, weight and water exercises, and ball games.

Anyone that feels that they are senior resident is welcome to join the groups.

The City of Espoo offers +68 Sports Wristbands to all Espoo residents aged 68 and over.

With the +68 Sports Wristband, you can

• use Espoo’s swimming halls
• exercise at City of Espoo gyms
• take part in City of Espoo gym instruction
• join guided physical activity groups for senior residents, and
• travel on Espoo’s archipelago boats.

You can get a Sports Wristband in the year that you turn 68. You can then renew the wristband annually. You can get the wristband from the cashier at swimming halls (except Olari) and the Espoo Info service points.

When you pick up or top up a bracelet, you will need to provide an ID. The wristband is personal and valid for one year at a time from top-up.

Activate your bracelet at the swimming hall cashier. After that, you can use it to enter the swimming hall gates directly. You can also use the wristband to access free training gyms.

Espoo’s libraries are shared living rooms

Libraries host events and clubs where you can meet new people. You’ll find peer support for learning Finnish at language cafés, which are organised at many Espoo libraries.

You can also volunteer for library activities and find new friends that way.

Libraries organise a lot of activities for people of different ages. Library clubs, courses and workshops are free of charge. All large libraries have a host of computer, console and board games for you to play. You can generally join all guided groups at the library without prior registration.

Service centres and Olkkari activities

Service centres are recreational facilities for senior residents maintained by the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County (LUVN). You can also join various groups and clubs at the service centres.

Olkkari activities at the service centres include spending time in a group with coffee and small activities as well as support for promoting your personal wellbeing.

Community Centre Kivenkolo, Kivenlahti

Community Centre Kivenkolo hosts a wide range of clubs and teaching activities and events. Individuals and various groups can also reserve facilities for gatherings and celebrations.

Kivenkolo supports the integration of immigrants in the area and promotes interaction between immigrants and native Finns.

Neighbourhood Centre Matinkylä

Neighbourhood Centre Matinkylä is an open meeting place and activity centre in Matinkylä, Espoo. The neighbourhood centre is a place you can do things and spend time together. It aims to bring people together for meaningful activities based on the residents’ needs.
