Culture Call
Culture Call is a programme that brings culture into early childhood education and day care centres. All children aged 3–5 attending City of Espoo's early childhood education and day care centres can take part in Culture Call.
What is Culture Call?
Culture Call is part of early childhood education and is delivered in partnership with arts and culture organisations. Arts and culture professionals visit early childhood education and day care centres to give performances or lead activities designed for children, while some centres receive a circulating material package. Working with children before and after the visits is a key element of Culture Call. In addition, there are Culture Calls for educators, during which art and cultural actors encourage staff to utilise the opportunities provided by art in early childhood education in new ways.
What does Culture Call aim to achieve?
Culture Call aims to make cooperation between early childhood education and the cultural sector more systematic and to promote mutual learning. High-quality artistic and educational activities support the objectives of the early childhood education and care plan. Culture Call strengthens children's participation and their equal right to experience and create art and culture.
Where is Culture Call provided?
Culture Call is provided in all municipal day care centres in Espoo with children aged 3–5. Every child in this age group can take part in Culture Call during the programme year. A session for educators is also arranged for each centre.
For Culture Call, the city is divided into eight areas. Each area has its own theme, which changes every school year.
