Basic education in the arts is goal-oriented education proceeding from level to level, offered primarily for children and young people.
Basic education in the arts provides students with the capacity to express themselves through art and continue their studies in their chosen art form in vocational education. Basic education in then arts is organised according to general and advanced syllabi. People can attend during early childhood education, comprehensive school or later.
In Espoo, basic education in the arts is provided for all subjects of basic art education; architecture, fine arts, craft art, media art, music, literary art, circus art, dance, and theatre arts.
There are 19 educational institutions of basic education in the arts in Espoo. Music
Increase the joy in your life through a musical hobby!
The music school Amado offers instruction in playing the piano, violin, cello, Finnish zither, guitar, accordion, flute and drums, and vocal lessons for children, young people and adults. We provide teaching without entrance exams for all who want to learn musical skills, no matter their age. You do not need to have any previous experiences in learning music.
The education is provided at schools in Jalavapuisto, Kauklahti, Kirkkojärvi, Kirsti, Koulumestari, Lagstad, Matinlahti, Mikkelä and Niittykumpu.

At Music Institute Avonia, you can study classical and rhythmic music (pop/jazz/rock) with inspiring and professional teachers. We provide education in Espoo keskus at Villa Breidablick, the Westendinpuisto primary school, at Bändikeidas in Olari, the Laurinlahti primary school and the Matinlahti primary school. Music Institute Kungsvägen provides Swedish-language education in accordance with the advanced syllabus of music studies. At Kunsvägen, you can study classical music, pop and jazz, several instruments and vocals. Further information is available on our Swedish-language website.
Estrada Music and Dance School in Espoo provides basic art education in music and dance. We mainly operate in the facilities of the city, from Suur-Leppävaara to Northern Espoo, and we have our own facility in Leppävaara.
The available instruments are piano, guitar, electric guitar, violin, flute, drums, bass, saxophone, clarinet, and vocals. In addition to instrumental instruction you can select playing in a band, music perception and other supplemental courses to support your learning.
We offer dance classes in show dance, street dance, modern dance, K-pop dance, popping and breakdance.
Estrada also has intensive dance groups for those looking to be more involved in dance.

The Espoo Music Institute is the largest and oldest music institute in Espoo and it is known internationally. 100 music teachers guide people of all ages and skill levels, and the students include babies’ music classes, people finding joy in dabbling music and people looking to advance to professional studies. At the EMO and the pop–jazz programme Ebeli, you can play all acoustic and band instruments and make music trough body percussion of rhythmics. Ensemble options vary from bands to string quartets, from folk music to big band. Students learn to become symphony orchestra instrumentalists through multi-level wind bands and string orchestras. You can find your own path to music through our children’s music classes, preparatory instrument instruction, choir, and rhythmics classes and over 400 annual music events.
The main facility for education is at the Espoo Cultural Centre in Tapiola. We also have education facilities in schools and day-care centres along Länsiväylä. Spring is the time to apply for instrument studies and choir (also in August) and to register for preparatory instrument instruction, rhythmics and children’s music classes. Welcome to your musical home in Finland! ISM Finland provides individual and group music lessons with over 20 instruments in 20 different languages from experienced international teachers, both in person at several schools in Espoo and online. We also provide Music Playschool lessons for ages 3 months to 7 years at partner daycares. Instrument and voice students are able to take internationally-recognised ABRSM exams for classical music or RSL Awards Rock School exams for pop/rock music. We provide the opportunity to enroll anytime, without entrance exams.

Music Institute Juvenalia offers fun and high-quality music education in the Suur-Leppävaara area, with the main facilities located in Sello and Karatalo. At Juvenalia, you can grow surrounded by music, from babies’ music classes to professional studies in music. Choose your own instrument and focus on subjects such as folk music or musical theatre. We also offer different kinds of training groups and choirs – here, you can play solo or in a group or both!
You apply to the student selection in spring, but you can also enquire about free places year-round. Babies’ music classes are held in both our facilities and day-care centres around Espoo.
At Music School Demo, education is open to everyone as there is no entrance exam. The focus of the education is to have fun and to enjoy singing and playing music. Tauko provides a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for learning vocals and instruments with others. You can start your hobby at any age. At Tauko, you get to decide what music means to you, from a fun hobby to goal-oriented studies. Our extensive course selection includes recreational opportunities for singers and musicians of all ages and skill levels.
The facilities are located in Olari and Karakallio. Students are accepted in order of registration in January and August.

Welcome to Espoon Tanssiopisto to dance. The dances taught at Espoon Tanssiopisto are ballet, modern dance, jazz dance, character dance and tap dance.
The classes for children and young people are basic art education pursuant to the advanced syllabus. There are open lessons for adults. The school is intended for people of all ages, from age one upwards. For younger pupils, the classes include children’s dances, and boys aged 4–6 and 6–9 have their own groups.

Dance Center Footlight has been operating in Espoo since 2007 and our extensive selection includes all forms of artistic dance, from ballet to different types of street dance, from modern dance to tap dance and from show dance to character dance.
We are an educational institution providing basic art education in accordance with our advanced syllabus. Led by our competent and nice teachers, the children attending our classes learn about dance technique, make new friends and gain amazing experiences as artists. We operate in three facilities and we have ten gorgeous dance studios. Classes are held in the Leppävaara area.
The DCA is a diverse dance school where students have the opportunity to complete dance studies of both the general and advanced syllabus of basic art education. Theatre and circus arts
Espoo School of Performing Arts ESKO provides education of theatre and circus art led by professional teachers. This is a hobby suitable for all ages. The teaching atmosphere is safe and based on good interaction. The experience-oriented teaching enhances both social and physical skills. The circus theatre developed at ESKO gives children aged 4–10 the basic skills in both art forms.
At ESKO, people learn, innovate and create new things as their unique selves. We have facilities in every regional centre of Espoo. The term fees are EUR 180–260, and there are also discounts and free places available.
Architecture
The School of Architecture for Children and Youth ARKKI provides architecture education for children and young people aged 4–6, 7–9, 10–14 and 15–19. The teaching emphasises learning through design and three-dimensional construction. Students are accepted in order of registration, starting in early May. Visual arts and handicrafts
Start a visual arts hobby, learn new things and develop your expression at Finland’s largest art school for children and young people! The Espoo School of Art provides basic education in visual arts and design for children and young people aged 5–20. We also organise holiday courses, art workshops and visual arts clubs for school children.
Our diverse selection includes professional art instruction from ceramics to street art and from game design to architecture. The facilities are located in the WeeGee building in Tapiola and other premises around Espoo.
The Art School Tatavuu provides diverse hobby opportunities in fine arts. The school is all about drawing, painting, building and designing. The teaching at Tatavuu is aimed at children and young people aged 3–16. Inspiring and professional teachers instruct children to use the means of fine arts to express their strengths and objectives in a creative environment. The Art School Tatavuu is located in the Espoonlahti area in Soukka.
Literary art
Literary art classes are about reading, listening, writing, finding topics for your texts and performances, and publishing your art. The teaching emphasises experiences and spending time together. Literary art supports expression, reading and writing skills, and creative thinking. Teaching is organised in places such as Ymmersta, Tapiola and Järvenperä.

Media arts
The Art and Craft School Robotti offers education in media and electronic art for children and young people. The continuous teaching groups explore the content, tools, history and present moment of electronic and media art through the students’ own works. The core elements of teaching are electronic construction, programming, new digital production and creative handicrafts. Our goal is to develop the pupils’ media technology skills and critical media literacy through art education. Teaching is organised in Espoo at the Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora.
