The main objective of the project was to create a sustainable framework for the creation of new game industry businesses in the Capital Region, while strengthening Finland’s position as a world-class centre of expertise in the game industry.

The project aimed to increase the number, quality, cooperation and employment readiness of small and medium-sized Finnish gaming companies.

The heart of the hub was Espoo Game LAB (EGL), a game development programme located in Otaniemi, Espoo. EGL provided participants with a professional environment for developing games, teams, skills and business ideas.

The project and its activities were partly funded by the European Union.

What did the game hub offer?

  • Community: For early-stage gaming companies and teams, the hub provided facilities that enabled collaboration and networking with other industry experts and new game companies.

  • Accelerator services: The project provided services supporting business development and growth, including mentoring, expert guidance and support in areas such as funding, entrepreneurship and business development.

  • Network of creative industries: The project created opportunities for cooperation between gaming companies, entrepreneurs, students, educational institutions and other creative industries, supporting new connections and innovative ideas.

Espoo Game LAB

Espoo Game LAB was a central part of the Game Hub for SMEs in the Capital Region project. Through EGL, participants could develop their games and themselves in a professional environment and receive support for employment, team formation and establishing new companies.

Espoo Game LAB activities ended in August 2026.

More information about the programme, its participants and its results will be added to the Espoo Game LAB page.
